We’re Marina and Ivan. We started PhotoCheese after a friend’s wedding, where the couple spent weeks chasing guests in a group chat for photos they’d already taken.

chz.is is our own little link shortener, and it exists for one reason: the fewer characters a QR code has to carry, the fewer squares it needs, and the faster a phone reads it off a table card in low light.
A shorter link packs into fewer squares, so the code prints chunkier at the same size. Our demo card dropped from 29 squares across to 25 — the same little card, easier for a phone to lock onto across a candlelit room.
Someone will always miss the card. The short link is quick to read off a table sign, type into a phone, or drop into the group chat without a wrapped line of characters behind it.
Both links open the same gallery — the short one just forwards. Nothing to set up and nothing to choose: every gallery gets its short link the moment you create it.

A custom link for your QR photo album.
Give a paid album a memorable custom slug such as sam-and-alex. Use it as a full custom album URL or as a short link on your QR code — both addresses open the same gallery.
Choose a name that belongs on invitations, table cards and a wedding photo QR code instead of keeping the generated album slug.
Rename the slug later and every previous album link keeps working, with a permanent redirect to the newest version.
Change your custom link; cards and messages carrying the old one still arrive at your album.
Where your photos actually go.
You’re about to ask your guests to put photos of your wedding, your baby shower, your family on a website they’ve never heard of. That deserves a straight answer, so here’s ours — including the part we can’t promise.
There’s no guest sign-in — your link and QR code are the key. Everyone you hand them to can open the gallery, and we can’t tell one guest from another. If you ever want it shut, one switch in your dashboard takes the whole gallery off the web for everybody.
The link that opens your gallery is the same link that adds to it — we don’t check who someone is before their photo lands. You can switch uploads off from your dashboard at any moment, and Expert lets you approve every photo before it appears.
Every gallery page asks search engines to skip it, and our robots file blocks the gallery path outright. Link previews in WhatsApp and iMessage still draw their little card — that’s a preview, not an index.
We don’t train anything on your photos, don’t sell them, don’t advertise against them, and don’t use them as examples. There is no AI anywhere in PhotoCheese that looks at a single image. They’re stored, and they’re shown to your gallery.
Remove a photo and the file itself is erased from our storage — it isn’t just hidden from the page. Guests can pull their own uploads back the same way, without having to ask you first. The photo someone regrets is theirs to take back.
Uploads close first, then the gallery itself: a week on Free, three months on Pro, a year on Expert. We email you 15 days, 7 days, and 1 day before the end, and the files are wiped a month after that.
A link is a link. If someone photographs your QR card from across the room, or a guest forwards the link into a group chat, they’re in — and we have no way to tell them apart from someone you invited. There’s no password on galleries today. So put your QR code where your guests are rather than where the internet is, and if you want a closer eye on what lands, the approval queue on Expert is the tool for it.
Two smaller things we’d rather you heard from us. Photos arrive exactly as the phone took them, which means a photo can still carry the spot it was taken in — fine at a venue, worth knowing if a guest uploads one from their kitchen. We’re working on stripping that out. And each photo has its own direct file link: if someone saves that link, it keeps working for them until the file is deleted, whatever the gallery does in the meantime.

Yes. Once a Pro or Expert album is paid for, its owner can choose a custom public slug in the dashboard and change it up to five times. It must be an available name between 3 and 64 characters, using letters, numbers and single hyphens; spaces are turned into hyphens for you. The same custom slug works in both your full PhotoCheese album URL and your chz.is short link.
Yes. Every previous slug stays attached to your album. An old PhotoCheese album URL or chz.is short link permanently redirects straight to the newest address, so invitations, messages and QR cards you already printed keep reaching the gallery. Your dashboard updates the share link and QR code to use the latest slug for anything you make next.
No. The public slug is only the guest-facing part of the album link. Changing it does not rename the gallery, change its private dashboard address or Photo Wall link, or move any photos in storage. Those stay fixed while the public link and its QR code update.
You do, always. Every photo lands in your gallery in great quality. Download the whole set in one tap, whenever you like — there's no lock-in.
Absolutely. Invite your partner, a friend, or family to be collaborators — by email or a single shareable link. They can sort, tidy up, and download right alongside you, so it never all lands on one person. You stay the owner and decide who’s in.
Not a penny. Collaborators are included on every plan, even Free, with no limit on how many people you invite. It’s the same lovely feature whether you’re on Free or Expert.
Yes. The Expert package gives you moderation tools to tidy up with a single tap, so you can hide or remove anything before it appears in the shared gallery. You're always in control.
Anyone you give the link or QR code to — and, as far as we can tell, only them. There’s no sign-in for guests, so the link is the key: whoever holds it can open the gallery, and we genuinely can’t tell one guest apart from another. Your gallery isn’t listed anywhere on our site and isn’t on Google.
If they have the link, yes — we’d rather say that plainly than imply a guest list we don’t have. The link that opens your gallery is the same one that adds to it. In practice the link lives on the cards on your tables, so this is mostly a question of where you put those. You can turn uploads off entirely at any point, and the Expert package lets you approve every photo before it shows up.
Two clocks run. First uploads close — after 2 days on Free, 30 on Pro, 90 on Expert — so late additions don’t trickle in months later. Then the gallery itself reaches the end of its window: a week on Free, three months on Pro, a year on Expert. We email you 15 days, 7 days, and 1 day before that happens. The gallery then comes off the web, and a month later the files themselves are wiped — that gap is deliberate, so a gallery you didn’t mean to lose can still be brought back.

No. Every gallery page tells search engines not to index it, and we block the whole gallery path in our robots file as a second layer. Chat apps like WhatsApp and iMessage can still draw a little preview card when someone shares the link — that’s a preview being fetched, not a page being indexed. What we can’t control is someone re-sharing your link somewhere public.
